Pennsylvania Big Rig Regulation Attorneys

In addition to the laws of the road, truck drivers must also follow a strict code of regulations that was drafted to keep truck drivers and all those they share the road with, safe and accident free.

The regulations were drafted and put into law by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a division of the United States Department of Transportation. The regulations cover everything from:

  • how long a truck driver can drive without taking brakes
  • how heavy a truck load can be
  • what can be transported and by what means
  • drug and alcohol testing
  • where a truck driver is able to operate his vehicle
  • who a truck driver may transport
  • required training
  • and much more…

Everything that is truck driving is covered and explained by these regulations. These regulations are available to anyone to view and research here.

One of the most important and heavily enforced rules for truck drivers is their driving time. A driver’s fatigue is one of the most influential factors in a truck driving accident. Truck drivers exceed their maximum allowable driving time without taking a break or resting to meet a looming deadline.

The two basic truck driving schedules are:

  • 60 hour/7 day limit a driver cannot exceed 60 hours of driving time in a 7 day period.
  • 70 hour/8 day limit a driver cannot exceed 70 hours of driving time in an 8 day period.

With these truck driving schedules, come a slew of other regulations determining how long the truck driver can drive before he is required to take a break. Break times and driving times are all determined by what schedule you are set to.

The laws and regulations are complicated and should not be tackled alone. If you were involved in an accident with a big rig, please call our Pennsylvania truck accident lawyers at Anapol Schwartz for your free consultation.
